One of our local residents, having suffered a stroke, determined to set up a Support Group helping others to return to mainstream activities within our Community. Hawthorn Community Chest was pleased to provide a grant to assist with funding to establish the support group to help break down the isolation often suffered by stroke survivors and their carers. A number of Hawthorn residents are experienced puppy raisers for Guide Dogs Victoria. Hawthorn Community Chest is pleased to be able to sponsor a Guide Dog puppy, named Barry. See if you can spot him on his walks through our streets! | Working Together
A local initiative known as The Shed provides the opportunity for people who are socially isolated and financially disadvantaged to come together to work and develop woodwork projects. Hawthorn Community Chest was able to provide a grant for the guys in The Shed to build new work benches and purchase new tools. Caring for Local Kids
A Grant Application was received from a local organisation providing foster care for children. Hawthorn Community Chest was asked for funds to purchase car seats for young children needing out of home care. As these examples show, there is a real need within our local Community for the services provided by Hawthorn Community Chest. With your help, we can continue to extend and increase our ability to assist those most in need in our Community. Security and Peace of Mind An individual, suffering from anxiety and depressive disorders and living in a community housing project, felt threatened by neighbours. Hawthorn Community Chest responded to a request to provide a grant for a security door to help improve this persons physical and psychological well-being and alleviate anxiety. 0 | |||||||||||
