NEIGHBOUR DAY         30 March   2008

G'day!   Hello!   Hullo!   Hola!   Ciao!   Yasou!   Xin chao!

No matter which way you say it or spell it, a friendly greeting is the best way to get to know your neighbours - whether they are next door, up the street or around the corner.

In a world troubled by the uncertainty of cultural diversity, and in a society too busy to notice the passing of an elderly woman until 2 years after her death, the Hawthorn Community Chest, in conjunction with local schools, businesses, service and sporting clubs is encouraging Hawthorn residents to get out and greet their neighbours with a smile and a handshake.

Hawthorn Neighbour Day on 30 March has been planned to create stronger connections between neighbours and raise the awareness of the issues of isolation, security and need.

Shortly, advertising boards will be mounted in strategic sites in Hawthorn promoting the Neighbour Day message and inviting individuals and organisations to participate.

A promotional kit including suggestions for "Get to know your neighbours" activities and events is available through the Community Chest's Website at: www.hawthorncommunitychest.org

President of the Hawthorn Community Chest, and former Hawthorn Mayor, Jane Nathan is available for interview and can be contacted on 03 9818 7950.
